The West is the element water and the color black. Autumn is the season of the West. Adulthood is the time in the life cycle. West is the place of maturity and emotion. Emotional refinement represented by the depths of water are the true energies of the West direction. This is the direction of strength in life and also fear. Fear of maturity and the gaining of wisdom. Fear of those dark, deep waters that hold the answers to all things, fear of looking within and discovering ourselves. It is the time of thanksgiving and preparations. A time to bring the experiences we have learned into play to ensure our survival in the moons to come. It is the time of spirit.
