Are Your Ready?

When all the gifts are unwrapped and trashcans are full, when all family and friends leave and the decorations come down to be packed away for another year, how do you feel? When the holidays end and now the long winter stares back with its cold and gray fingers, how do you feel?

The modern world and controlled society set up major holidays for the crash at the end of the high. Much like a sugar rush where you ride the sugar buzz for a short time only to fall hard afterward; this is how the modern world sets up holidays. The media pumps everybody up with promises of peace, happiness, flash and glamour, satisfaction and magic galore! Everywhere you look you see advertisements of such promises.

Traditional holiday gatherings with feasts, gifts, music, singing, dancing, parties where everyone is happy and differences places aside or reconciled are what we see in the media. However, most people’s holidays do not live up to such boasts. Instead they are REAL. TV and movies show us things not real, but glorified and altered from our world of physical reality.

Who is affected by this lie the most? Children who do not yet know better. They get triggered into riding the holiday rush only to collapse afterwards in states of sadness. They do not know why the feel the way they do, only that they are saddened and depressed in a time when they are “supposed” to feel great joy. Of course many adults have no idea how to make them feel better because they themselves are also depressed at the holiday crash and the eminent return to work and “normal” life.

Year after year the cycle continues. Year after year the media feeds the falsehoods of things too great to be practically attainable by most upon this earth. Year after year companies make massive amounts of money from this disgusting hype.

The New Year comes and the next phase of this cycle is the resolutions. People try to face their lives and decided they want to make changes. Some do, but many get a few weeks or maybe months in and their “normal” life and old habits reclaim their New Year’s Resolutions.

Here at Ways Of The Wild Institute we do not hold all the answers, not even close. What do we hold is hope, truth, straightforwardness and practicality- reality. For anyone who wishes to embark on a path of fulfillment and self discovery, Ways Of The Wild Institute might just be the place to visit. Students here do not find flat, impractical skills, but rather vastly dynamic skill sets that can be utilized in any walk of life. Here people come to find themselves through practical skills. Utilizing the wilderness, natural life, basic needs and foundational truth people follow the paths they themselves set into the truth of who they are. Along those paths people awaken to who they are and what they are capable of. The sleepiness of the modern lullaby wears off and the reality of the world becomes clearer.

In the Vermont Mountains we do not set unreachable goals and are not here to get rich of the skills we teach. That is obvious by looking at the very reasonable prices for all our classes and products. You can also see this by the fact that we have no “Institute” land like many large schools. We teach in the actual wilderness areas and on State Land. We care about the students who wander our way. We care about the quality of what we teach and the integrity of our school and purpose in life. There are no pedestals nor media lies here. What you see is what you get. If you truly want hype and glamour you will not find it here. Reality is what you will find here. Reality of yourself. If you are ready to seek deeper and more vastly within yourself, through practical life and useable skills, then here in Vermont might be the place to begin or continue that path and sacred journey.

The hyped up holidays are ending and the New Year approaches. Why not make resolutions that matter and are attainable? 2012 is right around the corner. It is time to start or continue making a difference! It is time to find yourself and all you are, no more hiding, rise and stand before life with a full heart and desire for a higher state of existence! The time is now, wait no longer, life is yours, make it so!

We are here at Ways Of The Wild Institute if and when you are ready for a new angle upon your path of personal sacredness.

Tranquility

The December hustle and bustle is in full swing for many people right now. For those of us in the North Country the snow covers the ground, cold winds speed across mountains on their way east and the woodstove crackles with fire to warm our homes. In the southern regions the air is starting to cool down and the color brown fills the landscape. For those way down there you probably notice the foliage changing and the new birds that have retired from the wintery north bopping about your yards.

I have returned recently from New York where I taught a course on Mind Control & Programming Reality. Even though it was a great weekend and we had a wonderful turn out I was exhausted each night. My average days are filled with quietness and the subtle sounds of the mountains where I live. Unless I am teaching I have very little in the way of human voice interaction, let along the many energies from people all around me. So when I do teach large groups it is indeed great and I love doing it, but at the end I must retreat and recover from that which I am not used to.  I do my inner self healing work and release everything to empty myself from the experiences. By taking the time to do this I freshen right up and regain my center, energy and focus quickly. Strolling through the wilderness also helps me to ground, center and focus.

Tranquility is a word many no longer have the energy of in their lives. As the winter holiday seasons gets closer and closer this words meaning gets farther and farther away from most. Of course this is the time people need it most! I understand that not everybody lives on a quiet mountain like me, but everyone has the mental powers to attain a state of tranquility within. Take the time for yourself to do whatever you require to gain a state of relaxation in body and mind during each and every day. Let everything go and relax into a tranquil state.

Simple things can help us regain balance of mind. Most people are unaware that the simple act of walking assists our mind regain balance and clarity. Yes, walking and especially if done in silence. Quietly walking helps our minds to recenter and our bodies to reconnect to this state of centeredness. Sometime you find that you must walk further than other days to attain the same results, but this just helps to show where you were and how much you needed the walk. It helps with circulation, respiration, joint flexibility, cell rebuilding, digestive function, muscle toning, brain stimulation and a state of inner relaxation to name a few things.

As we slip deeper into the coming holiday season of winter make sure you take the time for YOU and take a BREAK from the hustle and bustle. The season will be so much nicer if you do :-)

Signs (lessons from the past)

Omens and signs have a tendency to put fear into many people because they do not understand just exactly what they are.  When I was about 12 years old I was in a survival camp with Meechgalanne.  It was in a part of the forest I had usually tried to avoid until that time.  It was dark and very quiet.  The air hung heavy and still like that of a cave.  Most of the forest floor was covered with heavy vegetation that grew up to a height of seven feet in some areas.  It always reminded me of a mix between a swamp and a jungle.

Meechgalanne was sitting very relaxed under a huge sycamore tree somewhere between the physical and the spiritual realms.  He spent a lot of time in this state of existence.  At such a young age I was likely to believe just about anything I was told and I did not fully understand where exactly he was when he sank into that state of being.  He had the ability to look right into your very soul and beyond, which usually scared the heck right out of me.

I was observing a fern and trying to forget exactly where I was.  I was very edgy and felt nervous all day and did not really know why.  I had heard many ghost and ghoul storied in my 12 years and they were all racing through my head like wildfire.  My nerves were wearing thin.  I glanced at Meechgalanne and he looked like he was growing right there like an old beech tree. He was so natural looking.  I stared in awe as I really looked at him for the first time.  He was only a man, but you would have thought you were looking at a spirit when really seeing him.  He sat there like a tree with the look of total oneness.

His old face was weathered like the desert dunes.  His hair hung from his scalp like the mosses that hung from the trees.  His eyes were like black opals that were found deep within the earth.  Starring into them was like looking into the universe.  The spirit, knowledge and emotion that filled him from within radiated from his every pore like a golden light that could not be seen but just felt.  I had seen him many times before but this was the first time I actually saw what he really was.  Looking at him that day was like looking at the rapture of life itself.  He did not belong in this time period.  He was one of the ancients locked into the physical world of all the destruction, greed, hate, fear and technology that society has built.  When I was young, I occasionally wondered if Meechgalanne was actually there and what it was like to be in his world.

The scream of a crow echoed throughout the forest as loud as thunder.  I snapped back into the realization of where I was.  The crow screamed again and it sent shivers up and down my spine.  The hair on the back of my neck stood on end.  I could not understand why because I loved crows and ravens. But this particular time stirred something in me that I did not know the origin of. That was when Meechgalanne spoke in his soft, steady, hollow voice. His eyes met mine and stared right into me.

He said, “Some of the old ones believe that the scream of a crow is a message of punishment and revenge coming to those who hear it, the echo of law.”

That was all he said.

I was petrified to say the least.  The rest of the day I hoped as hard as I could I did not hear another crow or even see one.

The next day on our way back home a crow called out in a tree above my head.  I froze stiff.  Goosebumps broke out all over my body and I was scared beyond belief.  Meechgalanne felt my fear and turned around to look at me.  He started laughing so hard he could not breathe.  Now I was really confused.

When he stopped laughing he said, “You see how half truths can be so dangerous.  Yesterday I told you of the crow’s call but not all about it.  You did not ask any questions and so you never understood the whole concept and now you stand here terrified.”

When he finished his second laughing fit, he continued, “When you see an animal in its physical form it is just living its life.  If the animal’s spirit voice or body show itself to you or its physical body shows itself to you at a strange time, that could be an omen.”

“An omen?” I asked.

He said, “Yes, an omen is a message from the spirit realm that you did not ask for consciously.  It is sent to you because it is a necessary communication from the spirit realm.  If a crow calls in the forest it is just doing what it does.  It you are treading wrongly on sacred grounds and a crow flies about trying to get your attention and calls out, it is a warning to you.  It is an omen that you are doing something wrong and if you continue things may not go so good for you.  If a whole flock of crows flies up around you calling out and you had no idea they were there, it could be an omen telling you to pay attention because something is not right.  If you are thinking about someone who is very ill and an owl flies up to you in a strange way and is trying to get your attention it could be an omen that the ill person you were thinking about just died.  However, if you walk under a tree and spook up an owl it is just a natural action of life.  Do you understand?”

I said, “Yes, I think it makes sense to me.”

Meechgalanne continued by saying, “Then there are the signs.  A sign is an answer or a sign that you have asked to receive.  If you have asked a question of the spirit realm the answer can be sent back to you in the form of a sign.  A sign can only be truly translated by the person it was given to.  Someone else could offer suggestions as to its meaning, but only the receiver can really understand.  A group can ask for a sign and if they receive one they can all interpret it together.”

I asked him how often I could ask for signs.

He said, “Signs are given to us all the time. Most of them come from our Complete Self.  All we have to do is pay attention with awareness to see them. There are the signs we ask for consciously and those we ask for with our subconscious.”

I began to understand the difference between omens and signs but was afraid I would fail to notice them if they were shown to me.  If I did notice them, would I be able to understand them?  For some time this question weighed heavily on my mind.

Self Healing- personal note

I was walking up the back porch steps two days ago.  It was a beautiful autumn day with colors everywhere. I was barefoot. When I reached the second step from the top my foot went too far into the step platform and my heel was all that remained on the step itself. My toes and foot, back to my heel were hanging off the back drop off.

Since I was moving up the steps at a more rapid rate my body movement was going forward. My lower shin was firmly pressed against the face of the upper step. This created a primitive fulcrum in which my shin bone was caught. As my body movement continued forward the pressure on my shin as it was being ground into the step face dramatically increased. I felt an intense sharp pain shoot through my shin, ankle and lower leg. At the same time I could feel and actually hear a loud crunching sound coming from my lower shin.

Finally I was able to shift my weight and arch my hips backward while dropping the weight of my upper body down towards the top step. This allowed the pressure to somewhat alleviate from my shin bone. Once the pressure subsided a bit I could roll my weight to the right and bend the knee of my trapped leg, allowing me to free my foot and shin.

The pain shot through me and my foot was unable to respond to my minds command to rise and fall. I had a ‘dead foot’, or ‘drop foot’. I couldn’t stand on it and so had to hop up the last step and drag myself to the porch. The shin and ankle had begun to swell and bruise badly and quite rapidly.

Immediately I began doing what the mind says not to do- deep massage to the traumatized region of my lower shin. The pain was intense but I knew that I had to continue massaging through the pain. In-between massaging the shin I would rub the ankle and manually move my foot up and down to stretch the tendons and muscles in the shin. I continued to do this until I could stand it no longer. About 10 minutes or so passed before I stopped.

With my mind I began visualizing an ice blue color filling my shin, ankle and foot to reduce swelling. Then I visualized medium green filling the area to increase oxygen to the region which also increased circulation. Healing relies on circulation. If I had iced the area it would have froze the energy flow and healing would have taken forever. Dramatic swelling occurs at the injury site from lack of circulation. This is why I grit my teeth and massaged through the pain for as long as I did immediately following the trauma.

After medium green I began visualizing pale yellow filling my muscle, skin, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Then I filled my shin bone with bright copper- the frequency color of bone.

Within a few minutes after this color visualization I could walk on my foot and the skin that had begun to bruise was back to normal coloring. Save for the cut across my shin. But the bleeding never really began and so the cut was very mild.

I walked around on it for about 10 minutes while continuing to visualize the colors and mentally flood the region with internal energy. Then I rubbed organic castor oil on the entire shin, ankle and foot. After rubbing the castor oil in, which is wonderful healing oil, I rubbed neat Lavender essential oil onto the area.

I continued the castor oil, lavender oil three times a day as well as the colors copper, medium green and pale yellow. Today, two days later there is zero bruising, the mild swelling is gone and the pain is minimal compared to what I was expecting.

Self healing, everyone is capable of this! Self healing is part of what I teach in person here at Ways Of the Wild Institute. I even have an entire course on Self Healing under the direction North for those interested. I will be offering many of the North courses in the year 2012. So keep checking the schedule.

Night of Solitude

PREREQUISITE- Path of the Evergreen (down-loadable webinar class)

My Teacher always spoke of the great importance of solitude for the sake of healing, centering, grounding, spirituality, inner sight, higher connections, self discovery, the facing of self and the deeply personal interaction with the natural world around us and within us.

Every once and a while he would allow me to partake in the Night of Solitude. Before hand I would purify myself by way of physical and mental techniques; preparing myself for the night alone in the dark. Once all the personal preparations were made I would wander into the wilderness before dusk and find my place among the world. There I would remain, alone and without light, food or any modern equipment throughout the night and into the mid hours of morning. Afterwards I would wander out and once again use techniques to clean, balance, release and give thanks for my Night of Solitude and all that I had discovered.

The Night of Solitude can be looked at as a mini Quest. The true Vision Quest is of course 4 days and nights, but the Night of Solitude is a great way to reconnect with the core self and placement within life. It has traditionally been used for thousands of years around the world as a means of initiation, cleansing, preparation for ceremony- hunts- healings- journeys, etc. Young and old both used this Night of Solitude for personal enhancement.

Ways Of The Wild Institute offers a Night of Solitude to any who wishes to experience this ancient tradition. Here the student will:

  • spend the afternoon learning mental preparation techniques
  • spend the afternoon learning physical preparation techniques
  • be guided into the wilderness
  • spend the night alone in solitude where you can utilize your own personal techniques to gain what you are there to seek
  • or utilize neutral techniques taught the afternoon before
  • be guided back the next day
  • learn post cleansing techniques
  • end with a fire, food and discussion
  • During the first afternoon and evening there will be no meals. Light weight “neutral” snacks will be provided for those who cannot do without food for medical reasons. Water and tea will be provided. In the morning after ceremony a hearty breakfast will be provided.

The Night of Solitude is offered to ages 18 and up.

We understand that in today’s society it is different than it was when pre-technological cultures thrived. Many people are not accustomed to a general lack of modern equipment- even for one night. With that in mind the following items are allowed during the Night of Solitude:

  • ground pad
  • sleeping bag
  • bug netting
  • water bottle
  • pillow
  • small pack to carry the above items

No tents, flashlights, I-pods, cell phones, food, musical instruments or other modern gear are permitted. If it is raining a tarp will be provided for shelter. This is a night of silence and darkness.

A complete equipment list will be emailed to students upon registration. Pre-registration is required for the Night of Solitude.

You must have taken the prerequisite Path of the Evergreen before taking this class. It’s easy, the class is just a simple buy and download to watch in your own home or office!

Pre-registration requires a $75.00 non-refundable deposit. You can make your deposit here.

Total cost for the course is $190.00. Once you pay the deposit of $75.00 the remaining cost of $115.00 can be paid below through paypal or with money order.

All payments can be made by money order, cash upon arrival or Paypal.

Awareness

Meechgalanne always said that awareness was the key to the hidden spiritual secrets that underlie all life. “Awareness is the key to life”, he would tell me.  He said awareness and survival skills were the first steps to being truly connected to all things.  Complete awareness of wilderness (the external world) and self (the internal world)is the truth and power of life and the sacred path through it. Meechgalanne told me many times that this level of awareness was so important to learn and incorporate into the everyday life before I began the rest of my skills in life. No one could learn these things by cheating or shortcutting.  There are no quick ways to obtain this knowledge.  It would be impossible to know, understand and venture into the spiritual realm of life without first understanding and seeing the physical realm completely, but whomever did this would be pulled out of the physical realities of this dream and they would lose all grounding. One day they would be confronted with a wall that would show them their separation with the physical aspects of living in this world.  So it is that Awareness is the pathway to the true spirit and full understanding of self and who we are.

I began learning all the skills of camp and living comfortably in the wild.  This included cooking, gathering food, building shelters, making fires, finding clean water, reading the weather, making clothes, making tools, setting up wind breaks and making baskets and containers.  All the materials were natural.  We never had anything made by or from modern society.  These skills I learned very quickly and they became easy for me to do.

Meechgalanne taught me that every skill I learned had a deeper, sacred meaning that tied it to the Great Circle of All Life.  For instance, the wigwam is a symbol of life and fertility.  The wigwam is a dome shaped dwelling with one door and one smoke hole in the roof.  The wigwam itself symbolizes the womb of life.  The door represents the vagina, entry into and out of the womb.  Entering the wigwam’s door represent the penis entering the vagina to harbor peace and harmony within the earth’s womb.  The smoke from the fire, or life force, exits the smoke hole and acts as the umbilical cord to the spiritual and physical realms.  Exiting the wigwam is the symbology of birth into the physical world of being.  Just as the wigwam has meaning, so do all the other skills that were taught to me.

Survival skills followed in my training.  These included telling the direction, camouflaging, hiding, building quick fires and shelters, collecting and finding emergency water, learning medicinal herbs and their uses, hunting, snaring, fishing, travel, and of course, awareness.  These skills also came to me fairly easily.  As all skills go, the longer you use them the better you become at them.  I had a lot of fun learning all of these skills.  I was amazed at how much you could accomplish with natural materials.  Anything I wanted came from nature.

Since awareness ties all skills, knowledge, understanding and learning both physically and spiritually together, this area of my training will go on forever.  I would spend hours upon hours studying, watching, smelling, tasting, listening, feeling and sensing everything I could in life.  I stalked everything.  Even my family and pets were not exempt from me standing in their footsteps.  I saw how every little movement in the woods affected everything around for sometimes miles.  I learned to feel energies that radiated from all living things.  I could sense something moving off in the woods before I could see or hear it.  I could tell if a hunter was around, even if he was sitting quietly and camouflaged, just by his energy.  Everything I saw or felt became sacred to me.  All things natural became a necessity in my life.  Without them I felt lost and empty. The more aware I became the more comfortable I was in life.  The more things came together with awareness the more I understood all aspects of everything I saw.  Meechgalanne was right; awareness was the key to knowing.  My awareness level became so in tuned I could feel a buzzard so high in the sky that I could hardly see it.  My Teacher would say that on a good day it became next to impossible to sneak up on me.  I could even describe energy that passed on the wind and was emitted from the smallest insect, plant or the mind of a human. The “Wild Tongue” was what Meechgalanne called the voice of the wilderness. Everything has its own language he would tell me. Learn to listen to these languages and learn to understand what they say. They are all based upon a unique set of energies/frequencies. “Awareness is the doorway that we can walk through; out from the limitations of the room many live in and into the great expanse of life.

AWARENESS- The Awareness Course is coming up in September where I teach these vital life skills. If you are interested in such skills then check out the course. There is an early sign up special going on. So take advantage of this if you plan on attending. The Awareness Course is always a popular one!
