Hello Everyone!
Welcome to Ways Of The Wild Institute’s first newsletter. Hopefully the first of many!
To begin I would like to tell you about the Institute itself but I have had many people tell me they want to hear about me first. Well, I suppose I could give my introduction and then roll into the Institute. I would like to state that I am going to keep this brief and to the point because I do not believe in glorifying oneself.
About Me
When I was 9 winters old I met my second Father and Teacher. He was a full blood Native American man from the Lenni Lenape people. Meechgalanne was his name and he was 86 winters when I first met him. His whole life was lived within the vastness of the Old Ways of the pre-technological cultures of this world. Never did he take or use anything from modern societies and thus lived his entire life in the wilderness by the Old Ways. I partially lived with and fully trained under him for just over a decade in the traditional ways of his people that had been passed down from generation to generation from the elders. It was within his life’s vision that he would one day meet me and he was to pass the wisdom of his elders onto me. Those who come to the Institute will learn much more about this.
After Meechgalanne left this physical world, I moved away from my training grounds in the Pennsylvania Appalachian Mountains and headed west. I did not stop until I was in The Rocky Mountains. It was in those power mountains that I met my wife, Raven. She and I lived and traveled all across this country, including Alaska and Maui. Our son was born in the midst of this journey that spanned over a decade of winters.
I have brought my skills in the Old Ways and lived for varying lengths of time in every environment this country has to offer. I gained the wisdom of my skills and training. I do not believe in “titles”. I do not call myself anything but a true creature upon the Earthmother. However, many people have tagged me with “Master” and “Shaman”. These are now used in my internet profiles but I myself would not use them freely in conjunction with “me”. I do not consider myself to be one. When I say “Shaman” and quote it, I am using the term to describe a Natural Medicine Walker and Guide. The term “Shaman” is not a native term of this counrty , but since everyone seems to have adapted it freely and loosly I use it so we are all somewhat on the same termonology until you learn further the proper terms of the teachings I share. Meechgalanne was 96 winters when he left this physical realm and always stated that he could spend another full life upon this world learning more. I do what I do and I am good at what I do because I know who and what I am and I truly believe in it. Yes, I was trained in the ways of the “Shaman” and Warrior. I have walked this path for many winters and utilized many depths of both these ways more times then I can count. But I will never stop learning and striving for greater knowledge. I must stress that I was not trained specifically in any one Native American Tradition. Even though Meechgalanne was a Lenni Lenape, as was told to me, he traveld far and wide gaining many skills from many people. He taught me the ways he combined together.
For those of you who want to see titles…

- Blah, Blah, Blah…
Very simply put, I am a natural creature of wildness upon the Earthmother who lives by the ethics of the Old Ways, runs with my wolf brothers, seeks my higher purity, helps others in their healing journeys, teaches those who wish to learn in the skills that have become my life, a loving father and husband, and brother to friends. I am humble and strive for balance and fairness in what I do. Enough about me for now. Those who train with me will know me deeper then any words can ever say.
Let me speak of the Ways Of The Wild Institute.
It is part of a vision I had during a very critical time in my life…where death was upon me. In this vision I had the sight of the elders of Native peoples. In this sight I saw my path along the lands of the North Country, through the wilds reaching out like giant roots from ancient times and spreading across the face of the Earthmother. The roots were many colors and made of much energy. Each one represented a different alignment. Other beings and many humans who had darkness as cloaks were drawing the colors of these roots to them. They looked at these colors and began to observe them. Soon the roots became part of the humans and the humans became part of the roots. Other roots came from others who hold the Old Ways and eventually the roots began to meld together into one giant root system of the same center tree of life. All the humans began to grow roots of their own and soon all life was once again firmly rooted upon this world like in the days of old. The face of the Earthmother changed from that of strain to that of peace and health. Balance spread far and wide as the energy of wild purity echoed through the eternal realms. “When the Great Storm comes to this life only those who have their ancient roots dug deep will remain”. This last sentence is a piece from one of the prophecies that Meechgalanne compiled through his many journeys and interactions with other tribes.
That is just a small part of the vision that was shown to me. The Institute is a manifestation from that vision. I could not do my part to help by disappearing into the wilds. I had to come out to the fringes of modern society to reach those who truly wish to learn. I have seen many across this land teaching parts of the Old Ways and some are very pure and advanced. Those few are true to the power within. However, many teachers today teach what they have learned. But the difficulty is how they learned. Most people today who want to learn something go to a university and read many books and listen to lectures or other people who have learned what they know by reading a lot of books. Or they will take a field guide and wander the trails or parks and learn only what limited knowledge can be found in that book. The truth of the Old Ways becomes watered down, depleted and then the vital details are lost. Then partial knowledge is taught and passed down to others.
So I decided to teach the complied Old Ways through the Institute in its pure form. The wisdom is not watered down and I teach in a very real, hands on way. I share the details and vital information that the books do not tell because the authors did not know. Since I was taught directly by an elder and lived these ways, I teach these ways much the same that I was taught. However, as I stated before, I do not teach the pure Native American Ways. I teach natural wilderness living ways that were taught to me by an elder. I leave out traditional details of his people so as to not offend the still living elders of that tribe. If you seek scientific information and Latin names for everything, you will not find it here. I teach the old knowledge that stems directly from the depth of spirit and the high powers that course through life’s veins like warm blood. The knowledge that is available to all who are pure of heart and take the time to listen to these depths.
Through full length Courses to introduction Core Workshops, I teach this information year round. I openly invite anyone who wishes to learn these ways passed down from many native cultures, anyone wishing to return to the wildness in life, anyone who wishes to further their own evolution through balance and true inner self discovery to join me in the mountains of Vermont.
