Hurricane Mind
Hurricane Irene came through Vermont pretty hard the other day. All over the news you see headlines about the “epic” floods, washed out roads and bridges, towns cut off from the rest of the world because if the road damage…
I just wanted to let everyone know that here at Ways Of The Wild Institute all is well. No washouts or damage of any kind from the storm. That’s not to say that nearby there isn’t any damage, because there is. Just a couple miles south and east of here there are many roads with heavy damage and many small towns are down to one way in and one way out.
So what attracts this type of damaging weather to one area and another location right next door remains untouched? Like attracts like when it comes to energy. This includes the energy of the mind as well as the earth. Do you ever notice how certain locations of the earth are prone to damaging weather patterns? It has to do partly with magnetism and polarity. Certain areas of the land resonate with a specific energy that attracts like energy; in these cases violent storms. Remember, the earth is alive and attracts energy like everything else because it emits energy.
This is a very deep and complex topic and is better suited for face to face interaction. However, it is also a fact that man has figured out technological ways to manipulate weather. So areas of the earth that don’t normally experience violent weather are now beginning to. One of the many reasons is to show people that nobody is safe from such weather anywhere on the planet. Of course they are forgetting one highly important thing- the mind.
The earth isn’t the only thing attracting this type of energy. Our individual minds also attract energy and this foundation lies deep within our mind patterns. If we regularly think non-beneficial thoughts we will eventually attract the physical manifestation of them into our lives. If we have deep unbalanced emotions that we don’t express or release, they build within us and manifest into some disease or physical aliment. Thoughts and emotions are energy and energy must create one way or another. If we don’t let them go they will continue to live through us. If this is the case there are only two paths:
- 1. External expression and creation for good, bad or neutral
- 2. Internal creation for good, bad or neutral
Many, many mind patterns of likeness congregated in one location makes for a potent energy being output into physical life. This output will attract even bigger energy that matches it. If you have been hit by severe storms, earthquakes, floods, etc, you may want to take a look inside yourself and ask, “Why”. Nothing happens by chance. If you experienced it, then you called that experience from someplace within you.

Health Tip- Radiation
With the continued spread of serious amounts of toxic and down right nasty radiation from the Japan disaster earlier this year, we all need to remain vigilant. Contrary to what the main stream media and governments tellus the amount of radiation circling the globe today from that disaster hasn’t decreased. Sources are saying that the amount of radiation that has leaked from Japan since the tsunami is equivalent to 168 atomic bombs the size of those dropped in Japan during World War 2!
Some years back I was qualified in Rad. Level 2 and worked in a government clean-up site on America. I was helping to clean up an old compound that used to make Beryllium triggers for bombs during WW2. I know plenty about radiation and what the governments and media are tell us about the “safe” limits and how it is no longer a problem are straight up lies. Do not fall for their “alls clear” reports.

Now for another fact… most of the population is deficient on iodine. This is because of the modern diets, stress and lifestyle. This makes people even more susceptible to the effects of this radiation. In some locations around the world the levels are so highthat it warrants taking KI tablets. In most areas though it is not necessary. However, it is necessary to increase the iodine in our systems to support our thyroids and increase our natural defences to the increased radiation around the world. If you are not sure what your iodine levels are you may want to have it checked. Even so, it is a wise choice to make an good quality iodine supplement daily with the rest of your vitamins and minerals. Most adults can easily take 5 mg of iodine and 7.5 mg of iodine as potassium salt every day.
If you are sensitive to iodine than you can get it in a more gentle way through things like seaweeds.

We can no longer pretend that this is not a global issue. Ignore the lies and look to the facts. Your life depends upon it. Even running off into the wilderness to “get away from it all” will not help these days. There are herbs that can also be taken to help, as well as lifestyle changes and proper foods which we teach all about here in Vermont at Ways Of The Wild Institute.

Night of Solitude
My Teacher always spoke of the great importance of solitude for the sake of healing, centering, grounding, spirituality, inner sight, higher connections, self discovery, the facing of self and the deeply personal interaction with the natural world around us and within us.
Every once and a while he would allow me to partake in the Night of Solitude. Before hand I would purify myself by way of physical and mental techniques; preparing myself for the night alone in the dark. Once all the personal preparations were made I would wander into the wilderness before dusk and find my place among the world. There I would remain, alone and without light, food or any modern equipment throughout the night and into the mid hours of morning. Afterwards I would wander out and once again use techniques to clean, balance, release and give thanks for my Night of Solitude and all that I had discovered.
The Night of Solitude can be looked at as a mini Quest. The true Vision Quest is of course 4 days and nights, but the Night of Solitude is a great way to reconnect with the core self and placement within life. It has traditionally been used for thousands of years around the world as a means of initiation, cleansing, preparation for ceremony- hunts- healings- journeys, etc. Young and old both used this Night of Solitude for personal enhancement.
Ways Of The Wild Institute offers a Night of Solitude to any who wishes to experience this ancient tradition. Here the student will:
- spend the afternoon learning mental preparation techniques
- spend the afternoon learning physical preparation techniques
- be guided into the wilderness
- spend the night alone in solitude where you can utilize your own personal techniques to gain what you are there to seek
- or utilize neutral techniques taught the afternoon before
- be guided back the next day
- learn post cleansing techniques
- end with a fire, food and discussion
The Night of Solitude is offered to ages 18 and up.
We understand that in today’s society it is different than it was when pre-technological cultures thrived. Many people are not accustomed to a general lack of modern equipment- even for one night. With that in mind the following items are allowed during the Night of Solitude:
- ground pad
- sleeping bag
- bug netting
- water bottle
- pillow
- small pack to carry the above items
No tents, flashlights, I-pods, cell phones, food, musical instruments or other modern gear are permitted. If it is raining a tarp will be provided for shelter. This is a night of silence and darkness.
When most people of the modern word think of the wilderness they feel some kind of fear. Now combine this with night, darkness and solitude. What do you feel? Fear? Adventure? Excitement? Worry? Wonder? Night of Solitude is about you on the deepest level. Most people do not know themselves that deeply these days because of a barrage of reasons. This makes the masses easy to control and manipulate through advertisements, daily news filled with lies, high technology programming among many other ways. Night of Solitude is all about assisting you in learning to face you by utilizing the many energies of the wilderness; the natural world.
This night may feel like it is a night of fear at first, but with the techniques I teach during this class you will learn to surpass this fear and embrace the wildenergy of the wilderness and earth. Many people say they are not afraid of this raw and wild energy, but if they cannot spend a full night immersed in it, alone in unfamiliar territory, this is not their truth. This is not about being maco, but rather getting to know thyself deeply in such a way to understand how to shed the fear of self and the connection we all have to the wilderness of this life. What better place to do this than in a true wilderness area in a Night of Solitude?

Awareness Coming
Meechgalanne continued by saying, “I will tell you about the awareness point. The awareness point is what has trapped modern man in his flesh. It is what has cut man off from the world of true life. The awareness point needs to be trained to stay mobile and moveable. This point is the point of your awareness and total existence in the now. You can move your awareness point into any other realm of life you want as long as you truly want to. If the energies radiating from something in life are very powerful towards your awareness point, you can travel with your awareness point into that other realm of life to become it and experience that realm of life through actually being that realm of life. For instance, if you become captivated by the waters in the stream, if they call to you and demand that you become aware of its existence, you can move your focus point into the realm of the stream’s waters. To do this you must first truly understand how to feel all energies around you and be very aware of all life in any realm. Then you must truly want to become the water in the stream. If all that is accomplished, you then take all your spirit, emotion, thought, feeling, essence and pure instinct and use it to push your awareness point into the energy source that is summoning you. Once you have successfully moved your awareness point you will truly know what it feels like in every living way to be water. You can do this with all realms of life in the same way.”
The benefit from awareness lies in the realm of the deepest understandings of how life works and the deepest interconnections between all things. Only with this knowledge can we as humans truly understand how to relate to and work with life around us in a balanced way that brings purity, truth and healing to everything. However, the first step is to just be aware of every day existence to the absolute fullest.
Meechgalanne said I must trust in nature to provide as long as I believed in all life. As long as I went with the powers of the natural ways and did not go against the ways of life, I was happy and could survive in the wild with ease. I was taught to open my own spirit to the natural ways so I could listen to the voices of all life. I did not understand what Meechgalanne meant when he said the voices of all life. However, I started training in the Native American meditations to learn how to open my spirit.
I asked Meechgalanne what voices I would hear and how I would understand them. He said the voices come differently from each living thing. They will come from everything in the natural world with energy. I asked how I would understand these voices if they were all different. He told me I could already understand all of the voices because they were a natural part of life and so was I. All I had to do was learn to hear them and then I would understand them. I was excited to hear these voices so I tried and tried to no avail. I was so frustrated and confused. I began to doubt my skills were good enough to be accepted by nature.
As I returned home one day after training, I was dead tired and just wanted to go and take a shower and sit outside to relax. When I neared the edge of the woods to enter my parent’s yard, I was stopped in my tracks by something I had never heard before. After listening to this sound I realized it was the voice of the white ash tree beside me. I sat and listened for a long time to this tree. Soon I heard more voices and realized everything around me was communicating in a way without words. It was more like an understandable energy that was translated within my spirit. I was so excited I wanted to just sit there forever. I realized I had lost track of time when I heard my mother calling for me to come and eat supper.
The next day I ran to tell Meechgalanne of my experience. When I arrived next to the little stream in the deep hollow on the other side of the cornfield, he was sitting there with a smile on his face. I asked why he was smiling and he asked me what the forest had to say last night. I was amazed. How had he known? He laughed and reminded me he had been listening to nature since he was a young boy and could hear everything. I felt a little embarrassed for doubting him. After all, he had been listening for about eighty years now.
Still today I feel that Awareness is one of the most important of all life skills. Everything else we will ever do is dependant on our skill and level of Awareness, both external and internal. It is because of that reason I took Meechgalanne’s teachings from long ago and created a 9 step training program on Awareness. Each year I teach a big full Awareness Course here in Vermont. Autumn Comes- part 2
As the seasons change, so do our internal systems. Like I said in the first section of this blog, these changes are slow and do not happen overnight. Just as a season takes months to shift fully from one to the next, our bodies also slowly shift and to remain healthy we must learn to recognize the environmental shifts and the subtle shifts within our own personal systems.
Many people see an increase of phlem as Autumn drawn nearer. Maybe scratchy throats, runny noses, tired heads among many other common signs that dampness is building in the system. Many people have internal dampness caused by poor diets or excess cold or heat within thier system and organs. This can be easily controlled with proper diest, lifestyles and herbs. But when people continue to consume large amounts of cooling, cold and dampening foods as Autumn closes in, the organs within begin to weaken because they cannot handle that type of stressful energy and deal with the shifting seasons. The result is an increase of phlegm, tiredness, sluggish and or bloated digestive tract and an over all weakening of the entire system. The of course allows a greater susceptibility to germs and sickness follows.
Many people find it “normal” to see everyone getting sick when Autumn comes in. Many people just think that getting sick when seasons change is a simple and normal fact of life. This is not the case. If we remain Aware of what the environment is doing and how our bodies are reacting to it we can avoid this miserable state of getting sick annually. It does not have to be a ritual.
I read that in America 70 percent of the population is overweight! 70 percent!!!! Type 2 diabetes is still on the rise. Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, skyrocketing children’s obesity, heart disease…just to name a few severe common issues that are completely avoidable. Of course you have a very small number of people who have such issues within their genetic line making them more susceptible, but not guaranteed to contract or develop those issues. The main cause of those issues are lack of self awareness, bad diet, stressful lifestyle, non-active lifestyle (lack of sufficient exercise), non-beneficial mind patterns and self dislike or self hate issues and therefore self abuse tendencies.
People can no longer claim ignorance because the information is literally everywhere. So as the seasons once again begin to shift from summer to autumn we must pay close attention to our bodies and minds to see how they are being affected by the environmental shifts and work to keep things healthy within us. The truth is you do not have to submit to getting sick this fall and winter. You can learn how to take care of yourself and become self aware. Or you can continue to give all your money to main stream doctors, pharmaceutical companies and pollute your system with chemical drugs hwich do nothing but weaken you further to promote and continue the viscious cysle of dis-ease and poor health.
Our health is our choice. We have but to choices within that-
- accept responsibility for our health and actions
- or hand over our personal power and pawn off our responsibilities to others and play victim
I know what my choice is— #1.

White Wolf
An Old Tracking Challenge part 2
I awoke at dawn and felt the bobcat had not yet returned. So, I got ready. I stripped down to nothing and re-scented and camouflaged. I cautiously approached the boulders and found a good hiding spot where I waited for the cat’s return. I was careful not to disturb anything, not even the nearby robins. A while later I saw the bobcat approaching like a ghost. He hung around the outside of his den lounging in the warm sun for a long time before he entered the den to hide from the heat of the day. I waited motionless for about an hour after he entered his den before I approached. I stalked the opening ever so carefully. I was naked and had no weapons. If I got inside the entrance and the cat awoke, I would be in big trouble. I muted my energy and slowed my breathing. I controlled my body temperature and moved like blowing snow over ice. Like silk I flowed over the ground as easily as a snake and as quiet as darkness.
I entered the den with my upper body and the smell of the cat was intense. Even as he slept his energy was strong. It took all I had to control my whole being. I knew if he woke up now I would have no face left and might even bleed to death from the wounds I would receive. I had seen the remains of deer taken down by Bobcats before. It was dark and cool inside. I had to let my eyes adjust quickly so I could see. I could not stay inside the den much longer or he would wake. I had only been in there a few seconds but it seemed like an eternity. I noticed a small square, clean piece of sandstone lying near the cat’s leg. I thought that was kind of odd. There was no sandstone on the surface of the ground around the outside of the den. It was all limestone and quartz. I took the stone and carefully left the den. I left no tracks and put my loincloth back on. I re-scented and took off after the female.
By that night, I had found her den and waited until the next day. Her den was in the base of an old dead oak tree. I stalked her the same way I had the male bobcat. In her den I found a shiny piece of raw coal. This was also very odd to find inside her den so I took it and stalked my way back into the woods to a stream. I cleaned up and started back to camp. I could smell food cooking long before I arrived.
As I entered camp, Meechgalanne smiled and I saw that he had prepared a small feast. This was good because I was starving. Meechgalanne looked at me and asked if I had brought back the sandstone and coal. My mouth fell open as I realized he had planted them in the dens before I got to them. I showed him the sandstone and the coal and he smiled.
He said, “White Wolf, you have completed your task with the skills of a great stalker and natural woodsmen. You have made me proud and so we will feast.”
Old Offering is Back!
Hello to all,
I have decided to bring back an offering here at Ways Of The Wild Institute that was around a couple of years back. It seems that folks have been interested and so I have found a way to fit it back into the Institute.
Many people are fine with courses and workshops where other people are joined in to make a class atmosphere. Some people I find are more interested in personal interaction laid out in more of a free, loose structured style, much like it was with me and my childhood Teacher. For those of you who are interested in such interactions I have brought back Time with the Wolf just for you.
3 full days and 3 full nights with me in the wilderness. If you are interested in what this entails I invite you to visit the page dedicated to this offering. Time with the Wolf- unique, personal, real, fun, adventurous… check it out! It will be offered here and there throughout the warm season of the year.
Time with the Wolf
This is a chance for you to join White Wolf in the Vermont mountain wilderness for 3 full days and nights. Here you will camp under the thick canopy of the northern forests, cook over the fire, wander the mountain’s deer and bear trails, interact with the wilderness outside and inside yourself and feel the wild feed your soul.
You will be able to interact with White Wolf in the wilderness and learn from him as he guides you in skills, shows you the vast details of the land, leads you through true wilderness that has no formal trails or roads and listen to his stories by the campfire. During this time you can ask whatever questions you have and get face to face answers. No emails or phone- REAL TIME. You can learn a level of skills and details that are hard to gain from a group setting. During this time White Wolf can show you how to adapt ways to fit you personally based upon your skill level, interest and lifestyle.
Close to 4,000 acres of raw Vermont wilderness await you. The home of deer, bear, squirrel, moose, mink, fishers, foxes, coyotes, beaver, hawk, porcupine, voles and raccoon just to name a few of the animal species. This of course doesn’t include the wide variety of birds like grouse, wild turkey, hermit thrush, chickadee, owls, etc. The land rises between 1,400 feet and 2,300 feet in elevation and has a cliff wall that rises 1,500 feet above the valley floor.
You can sleep in your tent or a primitive shelter. Maybe you will do both. This time is catered to you. All experience and skill levels are invited. Maybe you have zero wilderness skills, maybe you have years worth- it doesn’t matter, all levels are welcome.
This is an opportunity to spend personal time with White Wolf in the great outdoors and get to understand the deeper aspects of Ways Of The Wild Institute and its teacher- the wilderness of life.
This time of 3 days and 3 nights are reserved for one or two individuals only. It is truly a ‘personal’ and hands on learning interaction time. This is best suited for individuals (male or female) or pairs (couples, friends, etc)
You will do a great deal of walking during these 3 days and nights so you must be in decent shape and be able to traverse the land.
